Online Psychiatrist Consultation in India
You can now consult an experienced psychiatrist from wherever you are in India — the same careful assessment, diagnosis, and treatment you would receive in the clinic, delivered securely by video. Dr. Anindo Mitra (MBBS, MD Psychiatry, JIPMER) offers online psychiatry consultations across India via Zoom or Google Meet, in English, Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil.
Who this is for
Online consultation is a good fit if you:
- Live in a city or town without easy access to an experienced psychiatrist.
- Prefer the privacy and convenience of consulting from home.
- Have a demanding schedule and cannot travel to a clinic.
- Are an Indian living abroad (NRI) seeking an English-speaking psychiatrist — see the NRI section below.
- Want a second opinion or a medication review without travelling.
What an online consultation covers
An online appointment covers the same clinical scope as an in-person visit:
- A detailed assessment and history.
- Diagnosis and a clear, written biopsychosocial plan.
- Medication guidance and management (subject to prescribing regulations — see below).
- Psychotherapy referral and coordination where appropriate.
- Ongoing follow-up and review.
Dr. Mitra's approach online is exactly as in the clinic: get the diagnosis right first, explain every option and its evidence, and decide the plan together.
How it works
- Book on WhatsApp to check availability and confirm a slot; you receive a video link (Zoom or Google Meet).
- First consultation — a focused appointment in which Dr. Mitra takes a full history and, where helpful, uses validated rating scales. You leave with a written plan.
- Follow-up — reviews are scheduled to track progress and adjust treatment. Many patients mix online and in-person visits over time.
Conditions managed online
Most psychiatric conditions can be assessed and managed online, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, adult ADHD, OCD, and structured deprescribing and tapering. Acutely unwell or emergency situations are not suitable for online care and need in-person or emergency services.
A note on prescriptions and controlled medication
Online psychiatry follows Indian telemedicine and prescribing regulations. Most medications can be prescribed online, but certain categories — such as stimulant ADHD medications and some sedatives — are controlled and are subject to specific rules. What is possible for your situation will be explained clearly and handled lawfully during your consultation.
For NRIs and Indian patients abroad
Many Indians living abroad prefer a psychiatrist who understands both their clinical needs and their cultural context, and who consults fluently in English (and Hindi, Bengali, or Tamil). Dr. Mitra sees NRI patients by video, with attention to the practical realities of consulting across borders:
- Time zones. Appointments are arranged to work across time differences wherever possible.
- Language and context. Consultations in English, Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil, with an understanding of the pressures many NRIs face — isolation, family expectations, and navigating a different healthcare system.
- Continuity. Useful for NRIs who want consistent follow-up with one psychiatrist, or a second opinion on treatment started abroad.
Important compliance note: If you are physically located outside India at the time of consultation, prescribing and certain guidance (including deprescribing/tapering) may need to be coordinated with a locally licensed prescriber in your country of residence, in line with local laws. Educational guidance, assessment, and second opinions can usually be provided; a clear plan for how prescriptions will be handled is agreed at the outset.

Safety and urgent help
Online consultation is not for emergencies. If you or someone else is in immediate danger or having thoughts of self-harm, contact local emergency services, go to the nearest hospital, or (in India) call Tele-MANAS on 14416. This page is informational and does not replace an individual consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Is an online psychiatry consultation as good as an in-person one? For most conditions, yes. Assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and follow-up all work well by video. In-person care is preferable for emergencies or where a physical examination is essential, and you can always switch between the two.
Can I get a prescription from an online consultation? Yes for most medications, in line with Indian telemedicine rules. Certain controlled medications (some ADHD stimulants and sedatives) have specific requirements, which will be explained. Nothing is prescribed unlawfully.
Can NRIs and Indians abroad consult with Dr. Mitra? Yes, by video. If you are physically outside India, prescribing may need coordination with a local prescriber in your country, but assessment, second opinions, and guidance can usually be provided.
Which platform is used, and is it private? Consultations are on Zoom or Google Meet. Your clinical information is kept confidential.
What do I need for an online appointment? A private space, a stable internet connection, a device with a camera, and any current medication details or past records to hand.
How do I book and pay? Book via WhatsApp or Practo. Fees and payment details are on the Fees & Appointments page.
